Welcome to Brighton Primary School
About our school ...
Brighton Primary School is situated in Hobart's northern fringes just 30 minutes from the GPO but located in a semi rural setting. The Brighton municipality is currently one of Tasmania's fastest growing areas.
The school opened in 1952 as an area school (Years 1 to 10) with a school farm and an enrolment of 198 students. The school now has approximately 600 students from Kindergarten to Year 6. It also offers a comprehensive Early Years program and outside school hours child care on site.
Our school offers a diverse range of learning opportunities for our students. Our teachers use an inquiry focused approach to teaching and learning which allows students the opportunity to have a voice in their own learning. Our school is part of the 24 Carrot Kitchen Garden program which means we have a garden specialist and a kitchen specialist who work with groups of children in our 3/4 classes. The children grow the produce and then are able to cook meals to share using the produce they have grown. We are excited to have a kitchen redevelopment beginning in May 2020 which will give us a bigger kitchen space for the children to learn in.
We value the Arts and have specialist Drama, Music and Art teachers work with our children each week. In 2020 we were fortunate to be the recipients of a language grant which enables us to offer Japanese for all Prep to 6 students. Our staff are trauma informed and treat all students with respect and care, giving them the space and opportunity to calm when required and the strategies and language to express their emotional needs.
Our school provides exciting learning opportunities for children in our community from birth with the Launching into Learning program that runs 3 days a week. The program provides information for new parents, fosters connections between families in the community, builds capacity and fosters a love of learning through the exciting and engaging activities run at the sessions.
Our school values are Respect, Growth, Aspiration, Courage and Kindness. You will see these reflected in the behaviour of our students and the way we all treat each other.
