Georgia Byrne Visit from Macquarie Island to Grade 3-4s

On September 18th, 2025 (Thursday), Grade 3-4 Brimblecombe, Grade 3-4 Mika and Grade 3-4 Iyer attended a session with Ms.Georgia Byrne from Macquarie Island, who came for a visit to our school. Georgia is a systems implementation manager with the Macquarie Island Conservation Foundation and came in to speak to the students about the climate, flora and fauna at the Island. The students were amazed to know that Macquarie Island is a part of Tasmania even though it is far away from Tasmania. Students were thrilled to see the pictures of the thousands of penguins in the penguin colonies there. Georgia had brought in cut outs of the different penguins, and we learnt about what they eat and how the island is managed. Students asked some insightful questions and enjoyed measuring themselves against the life size cutouts of the penguins. Thank you, Georgia, for a fantastic session.
