From the Principal
Dear Families
As we come to the end of another busy term, we celebrate our students’ continued efforts towards growth in reading. Students across our school have shown dedication to improving their word recognition and reading fluency, participating in morning literacy sessions. Thanks to our teaching staff for their ongoing planning and instruction for all students.
We have also recognised students who regularly strive to show our school values. Mr Slade has hosted many student celebrations over the last week for students who have achieved Golden Ticket milestones.
We look forward to students continuing to challenge themselves with new learning and new milestones next term.
As the term ends, we say thank the preservice teachers who have worked with us this term. Esther (2G), Zac (6GL) and Jason (6S) have all made very positive contributions to the classes in which they have worked. Jason will return to school again next term to complete his placement.
School would like to share that Mrs Ashlee Scott will begin maternity leave from the beginning of next term. Mr Sam Hall will be taking 1S for Weeks 1 – 3 and from Week 4 next term the class will have Mrs Haylee Latham. Haylee will return from maternity leave and we welcome her back to our school.
Sports Colour Day
Students enjoyed the chance to dress up in the colours of their favourite sports team today. Footy colours were very popular and there was much conversation about whether it will be the Lions or the Cats that will take out tomorrow’s AFL Grand Final. Thanks to Miss Griffiths-Lee for her work in guiding our Year 6s to lead footy based activities for classes during the day.
School Survey thank you
Thank you to families who took the time to complete the recent DECYP survey about Brighton Primary School. We appreciate you taking the time to give feedback which will be used to further improve our school.
Kitchen Garden visit – Professor Felice Jacka
We are very grateful to be a 24 Carrot Garden school. Not only are we supported to have such a beautiful and productive garden space within our school but we are often given opportunities to take part in 24 Carrot activities. These activities give our students the chance to connect to others who also have a passion for assisting young people to grow, harvest, prepare and share fresh, seasonal food for health and wellbeing.
Yesterday our students hosted Professor Felice Jacka, the Director of the Food & Mood Centre at Deakin University and fellow researcher Rubén Fernández-Rodríguez as they visited our garden and shared fritters made from 15 vegetables. Thank you to our fabulous kitchen garden staff Kristie and Evyn who supported our students to host this visit. More will be shared in the first newsletter next term.
Kinder enrolments
If your child was born in 2021, they are able to be enrolled to start Kindergarten next year. Places in our Kindergarten are filling up fast. Please contact our School Office to find out more about how to enrol or speak with Mrs Deb Geeves at Launching into Learning sessions. We look forward to speaking with you about enrolment and to partnering with you and your child as they transition to school next year.
Term 4 Professional Learning Day
As we head towards next term, just a reminder that Thursday 23rd October is a public holiday for Hobart Show Day and that Friday 24th October is a Professional Learning Day for staff and will be student free.
Thank you to all our families for your support this term. We look forward to seeing you again on Monday 13th October for the beginning of Term 4.
